Howard Yezerski Gallery is pleased to present "On and Off the Shelf" an installation of wooden sculptures by James Tellin. Continuing his work with geometric forms, in this new body of work Tellin pairs down the scale of his abstract sculptures, many are just 12 inches in height. The intimate scale of the sculptures encourages the viewer to handle and interact with the piece. Sanding down quarter inch thick plywood to a smooth surface, Tellin uses brightly hued stains and acrylic paint to enhance the natural grain of the wood and offer a seductive counter part to the geometric forms.

The scale of the objects combined with the odd juxtaposition of angles and shapes results in small life like sculptures. Poised as if resting on their tips and clinging to sides of the tables these animated sculptures appear to have lives of their own. They engage the space the rest in while at the same time engaging the viewer.
